General Information
Long before the oldest of the Free Cities was founded, the great dwarven empire of Thael Ruthak had lain in ruin for a thousand years.  Lost to some unknown calamity, the entrances were sealed, and the dwarves fled to the surface.  Some travelled across the sea to the eastern continent, where they established their kingdoms to the far north.

Most of the Free Cities were founded by long-forgotten empires of man from the eastern continent.  Relatively recently, Isserno and Mefalis were founded by the exiled elves who left their home of Asamund but refused to follow their kin to the Haven Islands.

While cities and men dominate the coastlines, and the forests of the east, the plains that cover the majority of the continent belong to the nomadic orc tribes, who periodically raid human settlements.

At the very center of the plains stands Mount Talikh, rumoured to be the main entryway into Thael Ruthak.  To the west, the Dhirin Mountains, and to the south, the Mirakh.
